Social Responsibility

NIED shoulders a social responsibility towards the Palestinian society and believes that all efforts should be consolidated to develop the environmental and health situation in Palestine. Out of social responsibility, NIED thinks that it has to enhance the performance and working conditions of institutions, thus bringing about a positive and direct impact on people’s lives. Therefore, NIED seeks to implement activities, projects, awareness-raising, cultural, and developmental programs.  All of these activities target society and all social groups; therefore, they are intended to make a tangible and sustainable impact on society in order to open gates of a bright future for creativity and innovation, eventually. In addition, the institute aims to empower and encourage youth to utilize their skills and experiences to develop society through initiatives and social activities that focus on the environment, sustainable development, economy, technology, and other fields. Indeed, NIED fulfills its social responsibility through the following activities:

Human Rights Considerations:

NIED welcomes and supports people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited to members of any gender, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, social and economic class, educational level, color, immigration status, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability. NIED pays particular attention to individuals or groups who may be at greater risk of negative human rights impacts due to their vulnerability or marginalization and recognize that women and men may face different risks.

Protective and Safe Working Environment:

NIED believes that workers and employees should be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, and should not be subject to harassment, discrimination, forced labor, or inhumane treatment. NIED is working continuously to providing a safe, inclusive work environment for its employees and even for the partners. All the time, NIED supports and encourages its employees and partners to fulfill their job duties with integrity and respect toward stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the community as a whole. Supervisors and managers working with NIED (part or full time) mustn’t abuse their authority and bush them to delegate duties and tasks to their team members taking into account their competencies and workload. Likewise, NIED expert team members of the partners should follow team leaders’ instructions and complete their duties and tasks professionally and effectively.

Empowering Women:

NIED believes in the equality of opportunity and treatment for all women and men. Also, it committed to enhancing gender balance in its workforce and empowering women across its value chain. In developing communities, women are often under-represented and under-resourced and through NIED’s projects, we enhance the awareness level of women’s health and their active role in the community. This can have positive impacts on their families, their children’s education and health, and can also make them less vulnerable to gender-based violence and more resilient against the difficult and complicated current local political and socio-economic challenges.

Protection of Vulnerable People (Protection Mainstreaming):

NIED believes that all children, the elderly, women, people with disabilities and even the internally displaced people during the emergency time have the right to live in dignity, and have the right to be protected from any form of abuse, discrimination and harm. Also, NIED carries the responsibility to protect them and provide them with a safe environment in all its programs and projects. Therefore, NIED requires all partners and others who have a relationship with the activities of NIED to respect, care and protect vulnerable people in general, including the commitment to implement the policies and effective measures to protect and care for children, women, and young people from abuse and exploitation in all its forms, especially protection from abuse and sexual exploitation, physical, emotional, or any other type of abuse, and give them the right to participate in any decisions related to them while retaining their right to complain in the case of exposure to any abuse or exploitation or even any shape of discrimination or negligence.

Complaints and Feedback Mechanism:

NIED is accountable in front of all in the work. With solid and obvious guarantees, there is a right for individuals and organizations to complain if perceived of being subjected to abuse and exploitation within NIED activities, or from staff or representative. NIED has zero-tolerance for corruption and bribery and is committed to listen and address any violation of the rights of workers, service providers, suppliers, contractors, beneficiaries, and local communities. NIED deals with all concerns and complaints quickly, confidentially, and fairly. The necessary procedures are taken in accordance with the approved complaints system. The complaint will not in any way affect the services provided by NIED.
