"Community development for healthier children in the Gaza Strip" helped to empower women to play a different role, be able to advocate for their rights especially the health right, and then they would be able to practice active citizenship. In addition, it educated women about public health and hygiene practices in order to transfer this information to others. Within the Project:
- The main object was to build the capacity of the community in general and women in particular in issues related to children health and nutrition for 25 women in the Gaza Strip with different backgrounds, knowledge, and ages.
Included the following objectives:
- Improving women's skills about the effective communication methods.
- Identifying basic principles for risk assessment, phases of risk assessment, and risk maps.
- Educating them about the importance of community participation, and the approaches used to build up an effective and efficient awareness messages.
- Identifying the importance of self-care and self-esteem.
- Improving their awareness towards the development of the children, and the role of family towards them.
- Identifying home hygiene practices including hand washing, oral and dental hygiene, and skin and hair hygiene.
- Identifying food borne diseases, and measures to prevent them.
- Identifying the main factors for providing safe food.
- Improving their knowledge about the importance of following a healthy diet.
- Rising their awareness about causes and symptoms of malnutrition and how to protect children from it.
- Identifying Human rights and women rights, and how to defend them.
- Educating them about the effective role of educated women in the community for creating safe and healthy environment.
- Rising the importance of women self-care.
